The Grove has recently been awarded the American Express WGC event in 2006. This is the 1st Event after the Ryder Cup at THE K CLUB and the top 64 worlds players will be on show. This is also very first time the WGC is being played in England and The Grove will be a wonderful setting.

As the capital's sprawling metropolis continues its remorseless expansion, you might be forgiven for assuming that the shrinking green belt was something to do with judo. 'London's Country Estate' would appear to be a contradiction in terms, with the idea of a secret getaway hiding a stunning new golf course and luxury hotel within the claustrophobic confines of M25 simply a spin too far.

Genuinely 5-star golf hotels, where both course and accommodation merit that accolade, are supposed to be in places like Turnberry, Gleneagles and Eskimo, or at least somewhere north of Watford. To be pedantic, The Grove Hotel which opened this September is north of Watford, but only a mile or so northwest of that infamous map reference. However, all jokes about gaps and dodgy post codes are wide of the mark here, as you take in splendid rural views from the hilltop vantage points at this strangely secluded 300-acre estate that's barely two minutes from junction 19 of the M25.

The Grove Hotel is a carefully restored Grade II listed mansion, visited down the years by such figures as Queen Victoria and Edward VII.

In keeping with the restoration effort, the hotel's modern wing, housing most of the 211 bedrooms and 23 function rooms, is hidden from the estate's essential vistas that begin in earnest with the well-sited practice putting green and the first fairway.
